Cambridge Who's Who Honors Harriet Lou Houser
Houser lends three decades of expertise to the Area Agency on Aging of Western Arkansas

FORT SMITH, AR, November 5, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Harriet Lou Houser, Staff Nurse for the Area Agency on Aging of Western Arkansas, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of geriatric care.

Now a 30-year nursing veteran, Harriet Lou Houser admitted that it took her some time to find her niche in the healthcare field. Initially, she worked in pediatrics and maternity, and later, she ventured into other branches of medicine before finally settling into end-of-life care. While many might think it a long stretch from pediatric care to gerontology, Ms. Houser finds it gratifying to alleviate the pain and suffering of individuals in their final stages of life. In fact, Ms. Houser has come to be thought of as an angel of sorts by her patients and their families. She was with the Area Agency on Aging of Western Arkansas for nearly 17 years, responsible for performing skilled assessments, overseeing nurses' aids and educating family members about the end-of-life cycle process. She is a respected authority on pain management and is distinguished by her compassionate nature for her patients. In 2004, she was given the Hospice Volunteer Award for her services.

Ms. Houser holds an associate degree in nursing from Paris Junior College and she is a certified CPR instructor.
