Licensed Pastor and Certified Activity Professional Recognized for 54 Years of Humanitarian Leadership.
LEBANON, OH, April 5, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Charles Peckham, currently volunteer Executive Director of the Resident Activity Personnel in Ohio and co-author and sales manager for the activity professionals text Activities Keep Me Going and Going.
With an unprecedented 54 years of professional experience, Dr. Peckham specializes in community service. He began his career in 1945 with the United States Army where he served as a chaplain's assistant. He notes that while serving in the ministry, he developed a unique concern for underprivileged populations and made the decision to dedicate his life to making a difference in the lives of those requiring support. In recognition of his selfless humanitarian efforts he was honored as an outstanding VIP of the Year by Cambridge Who's Who in 2008. He was presented with the University of Indianapolis Distinguished Service Award in 1994, the Rock of Aging Award from the Association of Ohio Philanthropic Homes, Housing and Services for the Aging in 1993, the Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Ohio Philanthropic Homes, Housing and Services for the Aging in 1985 and the Community Service Award from the Ohio Commission on Aging. Additionally, he was inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 1985 and was the first recipient of the Charles Peckham Annual Award from the Resident Activity Personnel in Ohio in 1984. Annually for more than twenty years the Community Action Partnership of the greater Dayton area has offered the Charles Peckham Award to deserving candidates.
Persistence and a desire to help others are the keys to Dr. Peckham's success. He was a licensed administrator, has served as pastor of the Otterbein Lebanon United Methodist Church and has written three books on genealogy and co-authored four books for professionals in the field of aging. A certified activity professional, he earned his Doctor of Education from the University of Cincinnati in 1971 as well as his Master of Sacred Theology and Master of Divinity from the United Theological Seminary in 1962 and 1954 respectively. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Indiana Central College (now the University of Indianapolis) in 1951. He is currently chairperson of Warren County Community Services, Inc., and Chairperson of the Warren County Balanced Housing Corporation for low and moderate income households, and past-president of the National Certification Council of Activity Professionals.
